25 Years of GAH

At GAH we pride ourselves on designing and building British made systems. We can refrigerate anything from car derived vans to 18 tonne for any size of company, whether vehicle fleets or a one-man one-van outfit. Celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, our systems are now used by a good number of supermarket home delivery vehicles plus all types and sizes of food retailers. They are also used in the transportation of temperature sensitive goods ranging from pharmaceuticals, blood and plasma products or water samples. Have a look when you are driving in the UK, there are thousands you will see (and some you will not as they are under specially designed air management systems).

With stringent legislation in place for the delivery of temperature sensitive goods, accurate control of the load space temperature is essential. Our range has developed and changed over the years after investigating the everyday complications of delivering temperature sensitive goods efficiently in vans, box bodies or multi compartmented multi temperature vehicles. We continually monitor what components are available to use with new refrigerants etc. and also design systems with weight, efficiency and reliability in mind.

Managing Director, John Reader explains, “All GAH systems blend sympathetically with the aesthetics of the vehicle whilst retaining the functionality and performance essential for such a vital link in the cold chain. Our latest systems are not only the lightest in their class but also highly efficient reducing our customer’s costs and increasing payload capacity. All of our systems are designed and built in-house to ECWVTA standards in Suffolk in our ISO9001 accredited production facility. We work closely with our customers to design and manufacture the best solution for their business requirements.”

Today we employ over 150 people from our base in Rendlesham, Suffolk including more than 50 service engineers who maintain over 10,000 GAH systems in the UK.  Our applications specialists work with the vehicle converters to ensure the right system is selected. They are dedicated to understanding the specific vehicle and operational requirements of the customer. Once the refrigeration system is installed we offer a single point of contact for all customer service support needs, including a nationwide fleet of GPS controlled service engineers equipped with the latest data transfer devices, enabling the information flow to head office to be fast and accurate.

John continues, “We strive to complete all jobs on the first visit on the customer’s premises, so we equip each engineer with a comprehensive stock, specialist equipment and parts tailored to the systems in their area. This enhances “up-time” for our customers and completely eliminates the need for their vehicles to visit a depot to take its place in a queue for routine maintenance or remedial work. All appointments and updates are confirmed by email or text to ensure all concerned are fully informed at all stages.”

Innovation is a key part of the GAH business strategy and has been throughout the company’s 25-year history. We pride ourselves on finding business solutions for companies of all sizes. Our dedication to innovation has seen many enhancements over the last 25 years including reduced system weights, reduced noise pollution and electrically driven solutions which attracted a prestigious RAC industry award. Today we are actively working with refrigerant manufacturers to introduce more environmentally friendly refrigerants. The roll out of new controllers will eliminate most fuses and relays, ease installation and monitors hours run on components with the incorporation of telematics. We have new heat-cool systems for pharmaceutical use, that enable vehicles to heat and cool simultaneously in two compartments, maintaining temperatures from -25°C to 25°C in ambients as high as 40°C and as low as -20°C, they have been independently tested and are operating with great success.

“It is certainly exciting times for GAH”, John concludes, “we are looking forward to the next 25+ years as we continue to work with our customers to deliver pioneering refrigeration solutions to meet their ever-changing requirements. We are proud of our success and now look forward to developing our business in Europe as well.”
